tHE cACTUS BLOOMS TONIGHT
ALMOST POETICALLY, MY PET CACTUS PLANT BLOOMED TO NIGHT.. sLIENTLY, NOT BELLS OR WHISTLES, OR SYMPHONY ORCHESTRAS...TO LET ME KNOW, THAT ITS INCREDIBLE BEAUTY WAS THERE FOR THE WORLD TO SEE, IF THE WORLD WOULD COME.
I HAVE HAD THIS CACTUS FOR AT LEAST 7 YEARS. LAST YEAR, IT STARTED TO HAVE A BUD, AND WAS ABOUT TO FLOWER...WITH IN DAYS, BUT A PREDICTED STORM, MADE US BRING THE PLANT INSIDE. SOON, I NOTICE THE FLOWER DIED. WHEN I EXAMINED IT, THE FLOWER WAS ATTACHED TO THE CATUS WITH A LARGE SCREW.. MY BOYS TOLD ME IT FELL OFF WHEN THEY MOVED IT, AND TO ESCAPE MY RATH OF ANGER, THE PUT IT BACK ON WITH A SHEET ROCK SCREW..I WAS NOT ANGRY, BUT DISAPPOINTED, AND AMUSED BOTH.
NOW THIS WEEK, THE TINY LITTLE BUMB APPEARED FROM THE SIDE OF THE TOP OF ONE STALK, AND GREW AT THE RATE OF ONE INCH A DAY....AMAZING, HOW FAST...THEN THE TOP OF THE BUMP THICKENED, AND STARTED TURNING A REDISH COLOR....WITH ME, EXPECTING A RED FLOWER, IF NATURE ALLOWED IT TO BLOOM THIS YEAR.
aS OF 5 OCLOCK TO NIGHT, THE BED WAS STILL A BUD, AND I DIDNT THINK I WOULD SEE A FLOWER FOR TWO OR THREE MORE DAYS. BY THE TIME I CLOSED TONIGHT, I WAS SO EXHAUSTED, AND FILLED WITH PAIN OF AN INFECTED EAR....THAT I LAY DOWN FOR A MNINUTE TO REST. I WOKE UP 4 HOURS LATER.....AND PROCEED TO CONTINUE PUTTING ADS ON CRAIGS LIST FOR THE STORE AND UPCOMING AUCTION...IN SEPTEMBER
I FEED BUDDY, AND A FEW MINUTES AGO, HE TOLD ME HE WANTED TO GO OUTSIDE. WHEN I PASSED THE CACTUS, MY MOUTH FELL OPEN WIDE, TO SEE A HUGE WHITE, GORGEOUS FLOWER
OPENED...WIDE..WITH MANY LAYERS OF PETALS....
i WONDER IF ALL CATUS BLOOM AT NIGHT.... OUT ON THE DESERT, UNDER THE MOON, WITH NO ONE BUT THE HEAVENS TO WITNESS THE BEAUTY.
Almost Poetically
my cactus bloomed tonight
silently
without warning
without bells and whistles
or a symphony orchestra
announcing the opening
of a most magnificent beauty
a natural work of art
It choose the night
by moonlight
to expose its beauty
to the world
with humility,
as if, its motivation
was to let heaven look down
on what arose
from a thorny core
