we went up to the mahwah store to load the truck to bring to an auction.....and put lots of stuff outside and we had a very decent day there..if buisness would have been like that , we woudlnt be doing so badly.....Got rid of quite a few things..not a ton of money..but three times the amount,had we sold it at auction, and less to schlep. There was one horrible person...who claimed she was in the Government years ago...she was attacking teachers....she said teachers are very over paid and they think they are GODS. and she continued to ramble on, about the government..yet i couldnt figure out what side she was on.. a flip flopper....
When she mentioned how much the teachers get paid in nj....i showed her that should the teacher want to live in BERGEN COUNTY..... taxes on an average house can be 8000 to 14,000. And that is without upkeep of the building, insurance....water adn sewer taxes. She bitched that teachers make 70,000 to 100,000. I explained that is before taxes.. Lets say they earn 70,00 before taxes. which is about 50k after. Take home is maybe 50??? Deduct lets say 10,000 dollars for taxes and sewer bills..that leaves maybe 40,000. or less. Teachers and their family...dont get dental insurance. There is insurance on the house. There is heat and light. FOOD, A car, gasoline... clothing....and a litle fun..entertainiment and going out to eat now and then...A little charity.. Repair on the house .....and hopefully some savings.....I do not think that is such a rediculous salary as this woman says. ANd if it is a young teacher, they have to pay student loans....too. This woman is very bitter and teachers were on her shit list.
Then she started out with the government..bailing out GM. When she got done ranting and raving...I explained that with due respect(she was about 78-82) she didnt understand it... That if General MOtors collapsed, every industry that was part of the car manufacturing would collapse... Glass for the windshield, rubber,plastic, radios, other gadgets, other sub-companies that made parts, like the windshield wipers, paint companies, etcetcetc. It would have had a domino effect, that would have collapsed the entire economy....This woman was a witch...this was ANN COULTERS mother, she was RUsh Limbaugh In DRAG....she was argumentative and mean spirited..there was a HAITIAN lady in there making faces at me in response to her coments.....we were almost thinking of gagging her and throwin her in her trunk...She also was partially deaf, so her ranting and raving was intererupted by many...WHAT????? WHAT??????GOD HOW ANNOYING.....
nOW THAT i AM ON FACEBOOK I AM FINDING MANY OF MY OLD STUDENTS FROM 40 YEARS AGO ONE OF MY ADORABLE ASIAN STUDENTS...CONTACTED ME TONIGHT....IN AN EMAIL,,I ASKED IF HE REMEMBERED ME AND WAS ALMOST INSULTED AT THE QUESTION. HE SIAD"DONT YOU REMMBER WHEN YOU GAVE ME A HOT NUT DISPENSING MACHINE???? HE THEN SAID HE IS WAITING TO PASS ON THIS TREASURE TO ONE OF HIS SONS..WHEN HE IS OLD ENOUGH TO APPRECIATE IT...HIS KIDS ARE NOW IN COLLEGE
HE TOLD ME THAT HE BECAME AN ANTHROPOLIGIST AND WENT TO MEET DIANNE FOSSY...AND HER LOWLAND GORRILLAS, RIGHT BEFORE SHE WAS KILLED. HE SAID IT WAS QUITE AN EXPERIENCE MEETING THIS LEGENDARY PERSON, BUT THAT SHE REALLY WAS A LUNATIC. HE DIDNT ELABORATE....WHY HE CALLED HER THAT..iT COULD BE JUST THAT ANYONE GIVING UP THEIR LIFE TO LIVE WITH GORRILLAS, AND MAKING ENOUGH OF A SIR TO GET YOURSELF KILLED IS CRAZY....
HE RETURNED TO AMERICA, AFTER TOURING MUCH OF THE WORLD AND EXCLAIMED TO ME..THAT THE USA , IS NOT THE ONLY PLACE IN THE WORLD, WE ARE VERY INFLUENTIAL...BUT THERE ARE OTHER WAYS TO LIVE THAN OURS...AND THAT THE WORLD I BEAUTIFUL....BUT HUNGER AND DISEASE IS SO MUCH MORE PREVALENT THAN MOST AMERICANS KNOW.
HE THEN CAME BACK TO THE USA, AND TRIED TO FIND A JOB THAT PAID BETTER THAN BEING A NON FAMOUS ANTHROPOLIST... AND CURRENTLY WORKING FOR THE VERY UNPOPULAR AIG....WHICH HE COMMENTED...ALL OF US ARE NOT "SONES OF BITCHES AND ASSHOLES..WELL HE DIDNT EXACTLY SAY IT IN THOSE WORDS BUT WROTE...WE ARE NOT ALL &%$###%&x+&z
THERE WAS ANOTHER STUDENT THAT WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES, ALTHOUGH I LOVED ALL OF THEM THEY WERE LIKE A BIG FAMILY AND I LOVED MY JOB....I HAD ALMNOST NO DISCIPLINE PROBLEMS...THERE WAS ON BRIGHT KID, WHO USED TO FOLLOW ME AROUND THE SCHOOL LIKE A PUUPY DOG..WHEN I WAS TAKING FLYING LESSONS....HIS PARENTS GAVEME PERMISSION TO TAKE HIM...AND HE REMMEBRS WHEN WE FLEW AROUND THE STATUE OF LIBERTY AND TEH TWIN TOWERS...AND WHEN I SAID. WE ARE MUCH TO CLOSE..WE CAN SEE IN THE WINDOWS...IF PLANES CAN GET THIS CLOSE, SOME DAY SOMETHING TERRIBLE WILL HAPPEN.. IT DID 9/11
40 YEARS HAVE PASSED....I THINK OF HIM OFTEN, BUT COULDNT REMEMBER HIS NAME.. I COULD SEE HIS SMILE.,,,WELL WHEN ON FACE BOOK I FOUND A LIST OF ALL THE STUDENT IN NEW MILFORD...THE SECOND I SAW HIS NAME I NEW IT...AND CALLED HIM TONIGHT. HE NOT ONLY REMMEBRED SO MUCH OF WHAT WE DID...BUT HE TOLD ME THAT HIS FAMILY INVITED ME OVER TO DINNER..ONE NIGHT AND HIS OLDER SISTER WORE A SEE THRU BLOUSE.HE SAID I TOLD HER HOW BEAUTIFUL SHE LOOKED AND IT WAS SO "VICTORIAN" AND HE KEPT ON REMMBERING THINGS..ALL OF WHICH I FORGOT.
HE WAS VERY MUCH INTO MUSIC, AS WAS HIS FATHER... HE LIVES ALONE IWTH HIS TWO CATS, AND THE REALLY BUILT KID, NOW WEIGHS 300 POUNDS ,BALD AND ALONE....HE SUFFERS FROM DIABETES AND HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE.......AND I OFFERED TO WORK WITH HIM TO LOOSE WEIGHT THRU THE SAME SILLY DIET I INVENTED. hE SAID OK....AND THAT WE SHOULD GO FISHING TOGETHER....i FELT UNEASY ABOUT THAT..I DONT KILL ANIMALS....BUT WHEN HE SAID HE THROWS THEM ALL BACK.....I FELT GOOD AND SAID YET. I THINK IT IS SO COOL, THAT I WILL BE GOING FISHING WITH A STUDENT THAT I HAVENT SEEN IN 40 YEARS. THE HAPPINES...THE BITTERSWEET MEMORIES..FORM BOTH THE EMAIL AND PHONE CALL...HAD ME TEARING ALL NIGHT. AS I MENTIONED BEFORE, THE OLDER I GET, THE MORE SENSITIVE I GET...
RECIPE: FUSION.....EASTERN EUROPE AND INDIA... TZIMMIS ALA BOMBAY
The word tzimmis is a food, Eastern European JEWISH food....and is a varied combination of cooked carrots, sweetpotaotes, prunes...raisins,pumpkin, squash..
brown sugar, sometimes honey, cinnamon....and slowly cooked...yuo can put other things in it too....other fruits.. and some people even use meat in it like brisket or chicken....but the idea is sweetness mixed with veggies...and you can even use onion in it because when cooked, onions get sweet too. add all of the above, add liquid..water, or broth..and letter simmer very slowly, or bake in a slow oven....
But now, we will add some little kumquats(and you can add other fruit like overripe pineapple chuncks, fresh peach, mango, apricot etc) and then CURRY. Cook curry powder with onions that are grated...and put in a little oil and then broth untill onions are very soft....and mix in with the above.... The mixture will be mind boggling..sweet, and hot and delicious. Experiemtn with addint other things like a little finely chopped cilantro,parsely....etc You can serve this by itself, over over rice pilaf.
